Here to help

The National Bereavement Service (NBS) provides free, specialist support to MUFG employees and their families when someone dies.

Our team offers a safe, compassionate space to talk, reflect, and feel heard, along with clear, practical guidance to help you navigate the many emotional and logistical challenges that follow a bereavement. We’re here to support you through one of life’s most difficult moments, whatever you may need.

  • Speak to a trained bereavement advisor
  • Emotional ‘first aid’ and signposting to specialist services if needed
  • Practical guidance on next steps and required actions
  • Comprehensive help with death-related administration and paperwork
  • Access to trusted organisations for further support

How We Can Support You

The National Bereavement Service offers both emotional support and clear, practical guidance to help you navigate what needs to happen after a death. Whether you need someone to listen, help understanding what to do next, or reassurance about supporting others, our advisors are here to make things feel less overwhelming.

We can also support managers in caring for bereaved colleagues and help you decide when additional resources may be useful. Whatever your situation, no question is too small — you can reach out as often as you need.

More information on our Support & Guidance

Emotional Support

A listening ear, whenever you need it.

Our advisors can help you with:

  • Grief, shock, or emotional overwhelm
  • Feelings of guilt, anger, or anxiety
  • Supporting children, partners, or family members
  • Talking about death when it feels difficult
  • Finding the right longer-term emotional support
  • Understanding what’s normal (and when extra help may be needed)

There’s no limit to how many times you can call.

Practical Guidance

We’ll help you understand what to do next.

We offer clear, step-by-step support with:

  • What to do when someone dies
  • Registering the death
  • Notifying banks, employers, and government departments
  • Understanding funerals & payment options
  • What happens to property, money, and possessions
  • Whether legal help might be needed (and what’s optional)

Our goal is to reduce stress — not add to it.

When to Contact Us

You can reach out if:

  • You’re not sure where to begin
  • You feel overwhelmed by practical tasks
  • You’re supporting someone else through a death
  • You’re worried about saying the wrong thing
  • You need help talking to children or family
  • You just need someone to listen

No question is too small.

Support for Managers

Supporting a bereaved colleague? We can help.

We can guide you on:

  • What to say in the first conversation
  • How to offer meaningful and appropriate support

  • Where to find internal and external resources

If you’d like to learn more, just ask when you call.
